Chapter 3
I ran downstairs. Tom was on the phone. His tone changed when I walked into the livingroom. Again: Yeerk business. "Tom, I need the phone," I said. "Wait a minute, midget," he said to me. "Okay, I'll be there...uh-huh...okay...yes," Tom said to the person-controller-on the other side of the phone. Then he hung up, just like that, and walked away. I picked up the reciever and dialed Marco's phone number. "Hello?" Marco's voice said. "Hey man, it's me," I said, trying to sound normal. Anyone can be listening in-even Tom. "Oh, hey Jake. What's up?" he asked. "Umm...well...I was wondering if you wanted to help me and Cassie in the barn in fifteen minutes," I said. "Oh...sure. I'll be there. Chow," Marco said. "See ya," I replied and placed the phone back down. Then I picked it up again and dialed Rachel's number. "Hello?" said a voice. "Hi, Sara. It's your cousin, Jake," I said. "Oh, hi Jake-y," she replied. (Jake-y's what she's always called me. She's Rachel's little sister) "Is Rachel there?" I asked. "Let me see-RACHEL!!! IT'S JAKE!!!" Sara screamed, bursting my eardrum. "Okay, I'm coming!" Rachel's voice shouted back. A few seconds later, Rachel was on the phone. "Hey Jake, what's up?" she asked, conversationally. "Nothing. What about you?" I asked normally. "Nothing much. Cassie's over and we're just catching the last few minutes of Power House," she replied. I grinned even though she couldn't see it. Cassie and Rachel both have crushes on the star of Power House. Then I remembered why I was calling and my smile evaporated into thin air. "Oh. Cool. So, do you want to hear that new CD I got yesterday?" I asked. "Sure...Cassie's barn?" she asked. "Yeah in about ten minutes," I answered. "Okay, I'll tell Cass. 'Bye," she said. "See ya," I said, hanging up. I walked into the kitchen. "Mom, I'm going over Marco's house for a little while, okay?" "Oh, alright, Dear. Just be sure you're back by supper time, though. Alright?" my mom replied. "Sure," I said, going out the door. I could've morphed and flew to Cassie's barn because it's kind of far. Not very far, just further away than the rest of our houses. But, I didn't feel like morphing. I was in a total tizzy. Ax...gone? Great. Juuuuuust great. And what are we going to supposed to do, Jake? Huh, great leader? Truthfully, I had no idea. I was sick of being 'the leader'. FLASH! Suddenly everything, everywhere, stopped.
