Hecate (Greek)
Hecate is the Moon Goddess in the aspect of the Crone or Dark Mother. Hecate was initially derived from the Egyptian midwife-Goddess, Heket. Hecate is also the "Goddess of the Cross Roads". She was born of the Goddess Nyx, the "Goddess of Light". She is one of the oldest deities and is also named "Queen of the Witches". Hecate is a three headed Goddess, with either the heads of three women or with the heads of a Dog, Lion and Snake.

Hecate grants those in her good favor with wealth and other rewards. She is the decider of war and grants victory and glory to her own. She also grants victory or defeat to contestants of games. She also decides if fishermen have feast or famine.

All wild animals are sacred to Hecate as is the Black Poplar and the Yew tree.

Hecate is traditionally worshiped at a crossroads. This is where travelers stop to ask for her protection and witches meet to learn her mysteries.
