Coatlicue is a goddess of the Aztec indians. She was worshipped as the earth mother and was in charge of life and death. She was also known as Serpent Skirt because wore a skirt of serpents around her waist. She also wore string of human hearts around her throat of her victims of sacrifice.

Aztec legend says Coatlicue became pregnant when a ball of feathers touched her while she was sweeping the temple. The other Gods, who were her children also, plotted to kill her, but she was save by the unborn Sun God Huitzilopochtwho jumped out of his mothers womb. His sister, Coyolxauhqul, was decapitated and the grieving mother placed her luminous head in the sky which became the Moon.
