Candles take time to make, but are worth the effort. Please read instructions carefully before you begin. Be extremely careful in melting your wax! Keep your heat as low as you can. Wax will flame up and burn if if too hot.
Supplies Needed
Paraffin or beeswax. (2 - 3 pounds)
Candle wicks
Oils
Candle dye or crayons
A double boiler
Waxed paper
Note: the wax, wicks, and dyes can found at local craft stores. The wax can also be obtained at larger supermarkets near canning supplies. Also you can use a large pot and a large can instead of double boiler.
Proceedure
Heat water to boiling then turn the heat down. Place the second pot or can in the water.
Cut the wax into small squares for faster melting. Stir the wax with a wooden spoon until it is completely melted.
Next, after all the wax is melted, break the dye cubes (or crayons) into small pieces and add to the wax. Keep stirring until all the color pieces are melted and the color is even and smooth with no streaks. Add your oil (a few drops at a time) until you reach the desired strength of the scent visualizing your magickal intent.
Cut a piece of wick "twice" the size of your desired candle length plus 2 - 3 inches.
Dip the wick into the wax then lift back out. Let the wax cool completely, then dip again. You can use another pan of cold water to speed this up by dipping the candle into the water and toweling it dry.
Continue this process until the candle is of the desired size.
Hang the candle to dry until the wax is set, but not too hard.
Roll the candles on the wax paper to smooth the shape Dip the candles a couple more times
Trim the excess wax off the bottom, with a sharp knife, so it is even.
