A TRIBUTE TO JAN MOSER

November 27, 1942

October 13, 2008

Janet Moser, who wrote many of the major reports on the Watch Unto Prayer website, recently passed into the presence of the Lord.  I gave the following tribute to her life and ministry at her memorial service on October 17, 2008.   B.A.

For the past 11 years, Jan was my dear friend and partner in the Lord’s work.  During this time we shared the ministry of Watch Unto Prayer.  Jan was a student of God’s Word and a most serious student of Bible prophecy.  From the moment she surrendered her life to Jesus Christ in 1972, she devoted herself to understanding God’s plan for the end-times, which she believed were the present days.

As a serious student of Scripture, Jan learned Greek and valiantly defended the Word of God against those who corrupted it. She became a meticulous researcher of history and current events and diligently endeavored to understand their place in the scheme of Bible prophecy.  When I met her in 1997, she had already compiled an extensive card catalogue of data which she correlated with the end-time prophecies.

At that time, the Lord led us to work together doing research and publishing our findings on the Watch Unto Prayer website.  As I got to know Jan better, I realized that God had uniquely gifted this woman to understand Bible prophecy and how the events of our own time are fulfilling the end-time prophecies.  I marveled at how God would invariably provide the information and insights she needed to understand prophecy.

Although Jan wrote many reports and books, her magnum opus was Heeding Bible Prophecy, a comprehensive, systematic and coherent scheme of Bible prophecy and its current fulfillment.  Of the detailed projections in Jan’s works, so many have come to pass that the only explanation can be the work of the Holy Spirit in her ministry.

Jan began her work many years ago in the quiet seclusion of her study, but today her numerous reports and books on Bible prophecy are a blessing to Christians and non-Christians worldwide.  As administrator of the Watch Unto Prayer website, I regularly receive, from all over the world, expressions of appreciation and gratitude for Jan’s outstanding research.  Although she is now with her Lord, Jan’s work continues to bear fruit, delivering many from the great deception that Jesus said would abound in the final days before His return.

I have never known anyone like Jan and I count it a singular privilege to have worked with her.  We shared the common bond of likemindedness and devotion to our calling to inform the Body of Christ.  We frequently marveled at how the Holy Spirit taught us and led us to the precise information we needed.

Jan had a logical and incisive mind which was able to size up a complex and multifaceted issue and get to the heart of a matter.  If I was at a loss for a piece of the prophecy puzzle or the meaning of a Greek word, a call to Jan would not fail provide the insight or information I needed; if not immediately, with the help of the Holy Spirit, the answer would come in due time.

Jan taught me much about Bible prophecy, but also about Christ.  Her meekness and humility, her serene and gentle spirit made a demanding and often controversial ministry joyful.  Never small-minded or easily offended, Jan was always pleasant to work with.  It surprised me that she seemed never to notice my faults or failures.  If she did, she was too gracious and focused on the Lord’s work to be diverted by petty matters.

I miss Jan already, but my sense of loss is surpassed by my happiness that she is finally with the Lord she loved and served.  God’s perspective on the death of a believer in Christ is given in Psalm 116:15: “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.”  Last year Jan told me that the Lord had given her to understand that she had fulfilled her ministry and that He would soon be taking her to be with Him.  The passage she read was Paul’s presentiment of his own death in 2 Timothy 4:6-8:

“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.  I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”

If anyone longed for the Lord’s appearing, it was Jan.  Her life’s work was to earnestly contend for the faith of Jesus Christ.  She fought the good fight and she finished her course well.   Jan has now entered into the joy of her Lord and, although I  miss her greatly, I can only be joyful for her.
