Improve the Kuala Lumpur traffic system including Kepong Baru and Kepong Garden
Statement by Dr Tan Seng Giaw, DAP National Vice-Chairman and MP for Kepong after visiting the Kepong constituency today, 1 August 1999.

Recently, the KLCH improves several roads in Kuala Lumpur including Jalan Ambong, Jalan Ambong 3, Jalan Ambong 4 and Jalan Arang in Kepong Baru as well as Jalan Kuang Bulan in Kepong Garden. It has introduced a one-way system.

Previously, residents had the trees and shades in the middle of these roads. There were traffic jams. Now, over 20 families along Jalan Ambong 4 suffer from noise, dust and fast traffic from dawn to midnight. Naturally, they are angry.

It has taken a few years of complaints before KLCH takes action to correct the traffic system in Kepong Baru. True, one main factor of congestion is the stalls along Jalan Kepong Baharu and Jalan Mergastua. This factor still remains.

Meanwhile, the residents are hoping that Traffic

or Transport Department, KLCH, considers their plights immediately. Some have proposed to revert Jalan Ambong to two-way or reverse its direction of traffic with suitable adjustments elsewhere.

This year, KLCH allocates RM294.47 million for solving traffic congestion, widening roads, improving public transport services and enforcing traffic laws and by-laws in the Federal Territory. From these allocations, RM73.1 million are for maintenance of bridges, roads, traffic lamps and public transport facilities.

We hope that KLCH can use these allocations effectively to improve traffic in Kuala Lumpur including further attention on the Kepong Baru and Kepong Garden traffic, especially those residents whose peace has been disturbed.

Dr Tan Seng Giaw
