| Last week, the Prime Minister Dato' Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced that he would send a shock wave during the 53rd Umno General Assembly. Alas, when the assembly ended yesterday, there was scarcely a ripple. In the 52nd assembly, the Prime Minister put up an initial list of On 19 June 1999, the finance Ministry released another set of names of about 6,440 private limited companies and 27 privatized companies involving billions of ringgit. It is said that some are connected with the supporters of former Deputy Prime Minister. Virtually all politicians claim that they would like to serve the people and |
to bring about a better society. But, favouritism, corruption, nepotism and cronyism continue to plague the society. The details of these often boggle the mind. It will take years to deal with them. The Prime Minister has repeatedly said that he would like to see Malaysia become a truly developed country by 2020. This is an attainable target. To achieve the status of a developed country, we have to tackle many things. These include favouritism, corruption, nepotism and cronyism. We believe that one positive way is to set up a royal commission of inquiry to look into the complicated webs of these practices that were some of the factors resulting in the decline and fall of empires and nations.
