Get To Know The Euro--the way to make Malaysia less dependent on American dollar

 
We hope that the new Deputy Prime Minister Dato' Seri Abdullah Badawi help to create and strengthen the spirit of tolerance among all races. We pray that our economy recover from the crisis. It is hoped that Tun Daim will show his public-spiritedness during the economic crisis.

On January 1, 1999, the Euro was born. This is portentous. Despite the teething troubles, this currency will play an important part in the world economy. We should appreciate the full significance of this. The United States of America is watching the Euro very closely. After all, it represents the currencies of 11 countries for the time being.

On January 4, 1999, the Japanese Prime Minister visited Europe, talking about the tripartite co-operation, Japan, Europe and America

for a stable and developed international monetary system. The French President welcomed the idea. But the European Central Bank President poured cold water over it.

Not so long ago, it was a bipolar world. With the demise of the Soviet Union, the world has become unipolar. America reigns supreme. She is not about to accept her military and economic dominance being eroded.

The people of the world would not like to see the total domination of the world by America. Three major currencies of Dollar, Yen and Euro, emerging looks more appealing.

Japan intends to lay a foundation for the exchange mechanism between Yen and Euro. The Malaysian Finance Minister must also understand the significance of the part to be played by the Euro.
