We propose that the Malaysian Government adopt a non-partisan approach to handle all forms of extremism because their eradication is the duty of all Malaysians. Statement by Dr Tan Seng Giaw, DAP National Vice-Chairman and MP for Kepong on the media report that Osama Bin Laden has one of his training camps in Malaysia. 17.9.2001   | |||||||
| Terrorism takes many forms. It transcends national boundaries. It may strike the soft belly of a nation as seen in the September 11, 2001 World Trade Centre, New York, and Pentagon, Washington, acts of atrocity against civilian population. The Government of United States of America, U.S.A., believes that Osama Bib Laden heads one of the terrorist networks responsible for several atrocious acts. Yesterday, the media carried a report that Osama had 34 training camps in the world including Malaysia. The Malaysian Government did not comment. We have always opposed any form of violence and extremism. We condemn the terrorism at the World Trade Centre, New York, and Pentagon, Washington. Thousands of people of various nationalities have died. We condole with U.S.A. and the families of these innocent people. We must find the culprits. But, we must not harm the innocents. FIGHT EXTREMISM We must prevent and eradicate any form of extremism so as to protect the people. We |
realize that extremists may exist at any place on earth, Since the media have reported an Osama camp in this country, the Malaysian Government must investigate and tell the public whether this is so. In yesteryears, America was hand in glove with Osama to end Soviet We hope that US reconsider its policies, reducing unhappiness among the people of the world. We also believe that the Malaysian Government should do the same, making sure that its policies do not increase the disaffection and discontent among the people. Widespread unhappiness gives opportunity for extremists to incite and to establish training camps with extreme expression of grievances. When we deal with extremism and violence, the Government should leave partisan politics aside, and treat them as national issues. All Malaysians must oppose them.
