EARLE

Descendants of Benjamin Earle

Generation No. 1

1. BENJAMIN1 EARLE was born Abt. 1853, and died October 28, 1916 in 137 Southside, St John's, Nf. He married ANN AMELIA. She was born Abt. March 1854 in St John's, Nf, and died December 16, 1929.

Notes for BENJAMIN EARLE:
I found reference to Benjamin as witness in the 1883 marriage at George St United of John Tune and Mary Ann Shepherd, daughter of John Shepherd (sic). Since Benjamin named two of his children with Sheppard/Shepherd as middle name, I am sure there must be a connection to this family. Might Ann Amelia have been a Shepherd? Finding their marriage record will surely help.

More About BENJAMIN EARLE:
Burial: October 30, 1916, General Protestant Cemetery, St John's, Nf
Cause of Death: mental debility
Occupation: Carpenter

Notes for ANN AMELIA:
Living with son Albert and his family on the 1921 census.

Thinking Ann Amelia might have been a Sheppard since she named her son and daughter with Sheppard as a middle name. Possible connection to the Sheppards that looked after the Fort Amherst lighthouse? That family had a Mary Ann Oak Sheppard who married Robert Wakeham. Ann Amelia named her daughter Mary Ann Oak Sheppard Earle. Irony? Sheppard family also had a John Oak Sheppard who died living at the Southside lighthouse in 1903, aged 26.

Notes for MARY ANN OAK SHEPPERD EARLE:

From George St United Church Burial records, Mary A E Earle of Southside died Aug 14, 1883, 17 mos.
Might this have been a second Mary Earle? I need to check the records further for the birth record.

The reason he gave was the RCs were made to attend church very Sunday while in the service but the Anglicans were given the choice of practicing their religion of their own free will. Jim agreed with this free will and converted.
