The Community Centre which was once the Memorial Institute was opened either in 1963 or 1964 by none other than the well known actress Wendy Craig who comes from Sacriston herself.
The centre is open to all residents of the village and includes a disabled entrance. This is where it all happens, you know the sort of things I mean, you've got your dancing, your bingo, slimmers nights and a host of other stuff to keep you occupied for a while as well as having fun doing it! The facilities include a main hall with bar, meeting rooms, cafeteria and kitchen. You can pop in for a cup of tea or coffee and a sandwich or maybe you'd like a lunch. The choice is yours and it's all excellent value for money.
It is hoped that extensive refurbishment will take place this year (2001).Below is a list of the activities that take place every week at the centre and if you feel like a bit of activity yourself then why not pop in and give it a go.
