| Truly
live October 12: Golden Eagle track to participate in Oklahoma Classic
By Micah Ortega
Have
you ever felt the wind rush past your face as adrenaline courses
in your veins? Have you ever looked over a cliff’s edge and
smiled in fear’s face after running so hard your muscles numbed
and you lost all feeling? Have you felt the pain, and pressed a
little harder to find rest on the other side of victory?
If you have, then you know what it’s like to be alive, to
take in the totality life has to offer, both the good and the bad
and then offer it all back to the God who made you. This summarizes
what the young men and women on the ORU Cross Country track team
will do as they offer themselves spirit, mind and body on Saturday,
Oct. 12 in ORU’s “Oklahoma Classic.”
With over 120 schools represented, young men and women of all ages
will compete in 15 different events, depending on age group. With
so many at the event, this is a great time for ORU to recruit for
the upcoming track season. The event is also an important preliminary
meet for the six women and seven men on the Golden Eagle track team.
At this meet, they will push their limits and evaluate their performances
in preparation for the upcoming Mid-Continent Conference Championships,
which begin Nov. 2.
The course will begin between Christ’s Chapel and the Praying
Hands. At 12:15 p.m., Deidre Emerson, Miley Turnbull, Mindy Crawford,
Wendy Scott, Melody Borum and Brandy Anderson will tear up the 5-K
event (3.1 miles). At 12:45 while the grass is still smoking, the
young men, Rajiv Maina, Mike Williams, Spencer Smith, West Philip,
Rotich Hillary, Jeff Crawford, and Shawn Venable will mow through
the 8-K event (5 miles).
So if you’re not going anywhere for Fall Break, paint your
faces, come out, yell and scream, have some fun and truly live on
Oct. 12!
