Food Service
Committee gives students a voice
By Rebecca Boller
Beginning in October
students will have an opportunity to voice their opinions about
the food services offered on campus in a new way. While in previous
years the food service committee elected officers, this year the
committee will be more of an open forum, according to Josh Showman,
Student Association Vice President of Services.
"[The food service committee] is a tool that is used between students
and food services to gain a consensus from students about needs,
wants, likes and dislikes. It is also a good tool for us to communicate
why things are the way they are. Parties walk away with a better
understanding of food service operation," Sodexho Director of Operations
Mike Neal said.
Meetings are open to all students and are held one Tuesday a month
in Fireside at 4:30 p.m. The food service committee, created by
Student Association, gives students the ability to offer their opinions
on general menu changes, including the availability and quantity
of items.
"One thing that was changed last year was that grilled cheese was
only offered on one day and tomato soup a different day. I personally
like them together so I asked if they could be served on the same
day," Showman said.
Showman said another suggestion that was heavily focused upon was
an increase in the amount of protein being served. While not all
comments result in immediate change, students are able to receive
on the spot feedback as to the realm of possibilities.
"I would encourage students to attend because their taste in food
or opinion of food service won't be represented otherwise," Showman
said.
