The
Sound of Heaven
By Shawna Arthurs
In the distance
I hear a whisper
The sound of heaven
Coming closer and closer
With each step I take.
Within me wells
A longing
Growing in intensity
Desperation and desire
As the sound becomes clearer
Singing
Laughing
Worshipping
Dancing as if time has stopped.
Around me
Other voices fight to claim my affection
The struggles of walking this journey
The temptation to stop and rest for awhile
The deception that these sounds I hear
Are only a dream.
I will not deter from this road I'm on
Even for a moment
The sounds I hear compel me
To keep walking.
It is the sound of the ache of two hearts
One of which is Love Himself
The other is mine
It is His voice I hear
Louder than a whisper now
But not yet within my reach
Soon...
Soon I will join with the symphony of voices
And with them raise a song
To the one who whispered my name
And I will hear as if for the first time
My Father's voice
As He says to me
"Welcome Home."
