Plane, train
and automobile
By Fay Torres
Spring
Break is a time for unwinding, dining, buying, flying, driving,
finding, trying and simply having fun with friends and family. This
break has a certain mystique surrounding it which even Fall Break
and Christmas Break cannot quite match. Perhaps it is the time spent
with friends, unencumbered by family, or the time spent with family
minus the friends from school. Or maybe it is the air of adventure
which surrounds the planning process. Whatever it is, Spring Break
is one of the college student's favorite times of the year. The
question is, what exactly do ORU students do over Spring Break?
Glad you asked. After gathering some info from our very own student
body, it appears many of them go home, to friends' homes or even
other colleges for Spring Break.
Freshman Mercy Muindi
I took a road trip with some friends. We spent the first weekend
in Houston and dropped off two of our friends traveling with us
who live there. Then we continued on to San Antonio. There was so
much to do in that city! We visited the beautiful San Antonio Riverwalk
and the historical Alamo. We did all the "touristy" stuff. And we
even got to see Plus 1 in concert while we were there! It was fun
and relaxing. I only did a little bit of homework!
Junior Kurt Bravata
I went home to the Green Mountain Valley area in New York, just
outside of Bennington, Vt. I flew out of Tulsa and ended up having
to land in Connecticut, about four hours away from where I lived,
so my dad had to come and pick me up. I spent quality time with
my family, friends and relatives and ate a lot of incredible Italian
food. My parents used to own an Italian restaurant called Bravata's-my
dad was the chef and my mom created most of the recipes herself.
It was a very nice break-no homework!
Sophomore Lori McCurdy
I went to the Caribbean for the first time with my mom and sister.
We stayed on the U.S. Virgin Islands at a really nice hotel, visited
lots of beaches, and did lots of shopping, of course. We went snorkeling,
and we even got to ride in a miniature submarine-a real submarine!
It was nice getting to relax, spend time with my family and do something
that we've never done before!
Senior Natalie Richardson
I took a trip to Ohio to visit my boyfriend. He attends college
there in Cincinnati. He has come to ORU twice to visit me, and so
I wanted to return the favor. My roommate and I rode a Greyhound
bus to get there, and we had lots of fun chatting (and catching
up on homework which wasn't quite as much fun) on the way there.
It was very cold and snowy, but we spent good quality time together-it
was great to see him after so many months of only hearing his voice
on the phone; I didn't want to leave! Well, the college years are
almost over for me; I graduate in May! Hallelujah!
Senior Tara Allen
I flew into Savannah, Ga., to visit one of my friends who graduated
from ORU last year. We went to a St. Patrick's Day parade, went
shopping downtown and went to the beach. I could really only get
my feet wet 'cause it was too cold. Of course, to keep up with aerobics
points, we exercised daily. We watched lots of movies and ate Japanese
food. Sleeping in was a given, of course. I'll probably go back
this summer!
