Faculty Q & A

Dr. Kenneth Weed of the Chemistry Department.

Q: Would human clones have souls?

A: Definitely yes. Essentially, you're getting identical twins. The difference is that the identical twins were raised in the same womb at same time while clones will be raised in different wombs at different times. Furthermore, the idea that a clone will be exactly the same as the original is not true. If you look at a set of identical twins-both of whom have souls-you can see each is clearly a different person. Thus, if we cloned Michael Jordan, he might not even be interested in basketball-he might want to be an accountant!
