New channels
added to lineup

If you have ever had
a goal, invested your time, energy and prayer into that goal and
then waited until it came to pass, you know how Student Association
president Alex Aguilar feels.
When he campaigned for SA president last spring, his main platform
was cable expansion. Immediately after he was elected in April 2002,
Aguilar began meeting with various members of administration to
make good on his campaign promise.
The first week of February his efforts came to fruition. Three new
channels were added to the cable lineup. The new channels are ESPN
news, ESPN classics and The Learning Channel (TLC). Students now
have 21 channels to choose from, plus the cartoons and specials
played on the University's closed circuit television.
This is the first major cable expansion since 1993 when ORU first
began receiving cable. The technology has changed since then, and
now ORU receives all programming through a digital satellite system.
The University just purchased four new receivers to accommodate
the programming.
Aguilar is excited about the expansion. "I am thankful that, by
the grace of God, I have been able to fulfill my campaign promise,"
he said. "God has really been blessing the Student Association,
and I believe it is because we have been tithing."
Although thankful for the progress, Aguilar is working on more improvements,
including continued expansion of the cable system, with at least
one more channel coming in the near future.
