Students show
each other love on V-Day
By Lindsay Goodier
The
sweet romance and lovey-dovey atmosphere of Valentine's Day may
have passed, but the pleasant memories will stay with ORU students
forever-or at least until next Feb. 14. Students demonstrated their
love for friends, brother and sister wings and their "special someones"
in creative ways this year.
"For my Valentine's Day, I didn't really expect anything. I went
downstairs to the Claudius lobby-and we all know that Claudius looks
like a garden on Valentine's Day-and there were flowers in a vase
sitting there for me!" sophomore Beverly Shana said.
Unfortunately, males often get overlooked on this day of romance.
"I gave my ATL and the other girls on my missions team a rose each,
and I received nothing from anyone!" senior Myron Mageto said. 'Tis
better to give than it is to receive, right, guys?
Many
brother and sister wings demonstrated their "phileo" love for each
other. Pinnacle made white paper roses for sister wing Image. The
guys also presented the girls with copies of their wing's newspaper,
"The Pinnacle Daily," which included characteristics they liked
about each girl.
Freshman Hannah Barton on Sigma Tau Sigma baked 15 dozen cookies
the weekend before Valentine's Day. She and two wingmates packaged
up the cookies with Valentine cards for delivery to their wing,
their brother wing and their sister wing.
Freshman Joe Page was blessed by one of his sister wingers. "I checked
my messages and discovered that I had something down at the front
desk. My secret sister wing girl got me a box of chocolates with
a Garfield stuffed animal."
Other floors celebrated by festively decorating their halls. Alpha
and Omega resident Jessica Stone was up until the wee hours of the
morning covering all of Susie Six's light fixtures with pink Saran
wrap. "When the girls woke up, they were greeted with a pink glow
and plenty of Valentines and bon-bons outside their doors," Stone
said.
Other students had the Valentine's experience of a lifetime. Sophomore
Jennifer Helm recounted her story. "My boyfriend Bret and three
other boys off of Shekinah planned a big surprise for all of their
girlfriends. We all met at Security, not knowing that the others
were coming, and a big stretch Lincoln limo pulled up. We ate at
the Peach House and our driver took us all around Tulsa. It was
the best Valentine's Day of my life."
The overall joy of the day was summed up in one of the greatest
things about ORU-friendships. "Even if you don't have a special
someone on Valentine's Day at ORU (which I did), then you can just
hang out with the sister wing! I love this place!" sophomore Shannon
Watterson said.
