More changes for intramurals
By Josh Muench

The intramurals program recently announced a set of additional rules to govern its basketball season. Several minor incidents through the first half of the season have caused the intramurals office to reevaluate its current rulebook. As a result, five new rules are now on the books in order to give the department more authority to deal with possible complications.

The new rules are as follows:

1. All equipment-related technical fouls are to be charged to a team, not a player.

2. Any player who accumulates three technical fouls throughout the course of the season shall sit out the subsequent regular season or playoff game. Technical fouls for dunking will be included in this count.

3. Any player or fan coming off the bench or seating area during an altercation shall be ejected or charged with a technical foul. The team captain is an exception in that he can come off the bench only to act as a peacemaker.

4. Any team receiving three technical fouls in a game, excluding equipment and dunking technicals, will be forced to forfeit the game and pay a $10 fine.

5. Any team that participates in unsportsmanlike conduct can be removed from league competition at any time at the discretion of the IM director.

The majority of teams and players will be unaffected by these rules. Most of the scenarios addressed are rare. In essence, these rules are intended to allow the intramural staff to deal quickly and fairly with inappropriate conduct. These regulations should not interfere with the competitive or enjoyable nature of the intramural basketball season. Head of Major Sports, Josh Miles, said, "Our intention is to allow the game to be played at the highest level possible without compromising the necessary bounds of restraint." This will keep the players, fans and referees operating in a competitive, yet safe atmosphere.
