SA candidates discuss platforms
By Sheldon Yoder

Executive vice president job description:
The executive vice president (EVP) is the general administrator of the SA office. This office creates a link between the Student Senate and the Executive Committee and serves as an assistant to the president. The EVP oversees the clubs and organizations on campus and is the student chair of the Faculty/Student Relations Committee. The EVP oversees the SA Public Relations Department.

Aymee Beiter
I have been with the SA senate since my freshman year, and I love it because one's voice can and will be heard. I would like to rebuild senate to set a higher standard and truly achieve changes and improvement on our campus and University. The EVP is responsible for the success of the student senate, clubs and organizations, Faculty/Student Committee, "Who's Who among College Students" and the senior speaker response. When working closely with the current EVP, I have developed an increasing passion for the responsibilities. By being the clubs and organizations' director this past year, I have found many ways that this area can improve. After talking to administration about the possibilities of providing the clubs with more exposure at ORU, we have looked into adding clubs and organizations' web-pages onto ELI as well as opening communication with the newspaper so that we may better serve our clubs, senate and ultimately you, the student.

Lindsey Miller
As an executive vice presidential candidate, I have three main goals. Firstly, I would like to see more student-initiated revival and leadership conferences like the Ignite Conference. Secondly, as the liaison between the senate and the officers, I want to see the two unite through strategy and negotiation to ensure that more is accomplished on campus for the benefit of all students. Thirdly, I want to see that the clubs on campus are in proper functioning order and have facility requests and on-campus events approved by administration. As EVP I would propose ways to boost attendance, enable quicker administration approval, and promote unity among all the officers of the various clubs. I have experience working with administration and with SA as the Java Hut Coordinator. Furthermore, I am a hard-working and organized person. All of these are skills needed for the position, and I wish to use the skills that I have to serve the student body in whatever ways needed.

Vice president of finance job description:
The vice president of activities is responsible for planning all SA-sponsored activities and events put on for the student body. Events such as the welcome back picnic, Java Huts, game nights, food parties and Homecoming festivities all fall under the direction of this VP.

Julius Em (Jay)
My prayer everyday is, "Lord, you have been so good to me. You gave your best; now Lord take the best in me and use it for your glory." I was blessed to work for a major export company in the Philippines as a budget officer for three years. At ORU, I have studied finance courses, and I have had the chance to direct a weekly community outreach. I have also been selected to join the Model United Nations Team for ORU, and I am blessed to be able to participate in ORU missions this summer. I consider it a privilege to run for the position of vice president of finance. It would be an honor to serve ORU students through this position.

Nera Piric
At ORU I have served as the SA bank manager, a senator and member of the SA Commuter Committee and Student Access Committee. I also have over five years of experience in the finance and accounting field while employed by Halliburton as an accounting coordinator and supervisor of accounts payable and receivable. As part of my platform, I would like to increase the number of times the change machines are restocked and make sure that they are working at all times. I would like to open the SA bank for four or five days a week instead of the three it is currently open. I would like to increase the cash balance in the SA Bank from $6,000 to $12,000 to better service the students who try to cash their checks. Furthermore, I would like to increase by $50 the size of third party checks SA is allowed to cash for students.

Vice president of graduate and commuter affairs job description:
The vice president of graduate and commuter affairs assists graduate organizations and plans activities for graduate and commuter students. He or she is also a representative for SA in communicating all pertinent information to commuter students.

Julie Hutto
For the past two years, I have served as a commuter representative in the Student Association Senate. I have also been involved with Freshman Council, intramurals, the Mabee Center Maniacs, the American Marketing Association, the Accounting Society, the Administrative Management Society and Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature. My main goal is to keep graduate students and commuters better informed about the activities on campus. I plan to focus heavily on public relations, refining the Adopt-A-Commuter program, working closely with the commuter senators and continuing the SA web page that is in the works to let students know what's happening on campus. Battle of the Bands, Club Rush, Java Hut and community outreach are just a few of the areas where I want to increase commuter involvement. The question I ask you is this: "Who better to help get commuters in tune with what's happening on campus than someone who is in tune with what's happening on campus?"

Erin Rogers
Hello ORU! I am Erin Rogers, a 20 year-old business administration major from Owasso, Oklahoma. I have enjoyed working with the Student Association, as a Freshman Council member and currently as the Adopt-A-Commuter Director. I would feel privileged to continue serving the ORU campus if elected vice president of graduate and commuter affairs. I will serve the student body by bridging the communication gap between commuters and on-campus students with the use of technology-such as email-to communicate campus events to commuters and graduates. A revised Adopt-A-Commuter program will give resident advisors the option of participating in the program before school begins, resulting in a faster connection of commuters and on-campus students. Graduates and undergraduates with children will not be forgotten. A proposition will be made to add a babysitting night, in which the Student Association will offer free babysitting for the evening. Thank you for your support!

Julie Pefferman is running for vice president of activities and David Jensen for vice president of services. Both positions are uncontested.
