New face on
campus
By Jessica Woods
There is a new face
at the customer service desk. Kay Mains is ORU's newest daytime
Student Services Coordinator. Behind the desk for approximately
one month, Mains is enthusiastic about helping students and learning
the ins and outs of her job. Her aim is to help people "avoid the
run-around, avoid the frustration" of navigating the University.
Eager to become skilled in her new position, Mains studies maps
and searches the Internet during her free time to familiarize herself
with the school and its resources. She is grateful to her co-workers
for their support. "Everyone has been very patient," Mains said.
A native Oklahoman, Mains lived for some years in west Texas before
relocating to the Tulsa area three years ago. The mother of three-two
daughters and a son-Mains felt a connection to ORU since her oldest
daughter attended. She is pleased to be in a Christian environment,
finding ORU a welcome change from previous work places. "I got tired
of the [bad] language," Mains said, speaking of past work experiences.
Also, she enjoys being around young people, and where are more to
be found than at a college?
As a Student Services Coordinator, Mains is prepared to assist students
in an abundance of ways that many may not realize. Not only is she
armed with a stapler, a pencil sharpener, band-aids and Kleenex,
she also has access to the complete campus directory. She willingly
helps students locate departments and faculty, as well as solve
more challenging situations.
The desk also holds papers and notes left for fellow students and
serves as the location for Lost and Found. Mains is ready to come
to the rescue in just about any crisis, so students should not hesitate
to ask for her help in a dilemma. Her friendly smile and genuine
warmth will disarm the disgruntled and care for the confused.
