Last
Day of Childhood
By Lindsay Goodier
Emerging from the bubbles
And the butterflies of life
Stepping out of the marshmallow stories
And endless pillow fights-
Goodbye, childhood.
Leaving behind water gun fights
And tree house talks,
Abandoning those precious stuffed animals
And Barbie dolls-
I am almost an adult.
Sacrificing the worn and torn clothes
The scents, the tastes of berry-flavored thumbs-
The fleshy, childish things I have held on to
I put away these childish things.
Tomorrow I will no longer be a child.
