Road Not Taken:
straight and narrow
By Lindsay Goodier
Based
out of Tulsa and ORU, the band Road Not Taken has proven to be more
than your typical "garage" band. They offer a penetrating message:
running the straight and narrow road for the Lord. If you are interested
in a pure rock sound underlining worshipful lyrics, you should check
out Road Not Taken.
Hearing Road Not Taken motivates listeners to throw their heads
back and jump up and down or simply stand in awe of God's grace.
The song "Personal Apology," as with many of the band's other songs,
deals with the issue of the faults of man and the amazing, constant
grace of God. "Again we come before your presence/ We're only saved
by grace/ You remain the same/ Even when we've walked away."
"Our present-day success attests to God's grace and the guidance
He has given us over the past year," bassist Todd Kirkland said.
With such enthusiasm and clear vision, Road Not Taken has set many
goals for the next few months. In March, they plan to release their
first full-length CD. They also hope to secure high profile concerts
for this summer in Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio,
Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas.
The band's current members have been together since November 2000.
Road Not Taken consists of David "Vic" Victorine (lead vocals, guitar),
Todd Kirkland (bass, background vocals), Jacob Hand (lead guitar,
background vocals) and David Pavelchak (percussion). In their early
days, this group of friends spent most of their free time in long
hours of practicing, song writing and learning about city noise
ordinances the hard way.
After much hard work, they graced the ORU Battle of the Bands last
February. Local success soon became evident in the band's steady
growth of fans and the March 2001 release of their five-track CD
"Once Upon a December." By summertime, venues were requesting Road
Not Taken more than time would permit the band to perform.
With this band, listeners can expect great instrumentation from
the developed talents of four incredible, young musicians. Their
sound is spontaneous and dynamic, reflecting the energy of the entire
group. Like many amateur bands, Road Not Taken has partially fashioned
their sound after mainstream artists.
"All of us were really into Stone Temple Pilots back in the day
when they first got started," lead guitarist Jacob Hand said, "and
we've also been affected by the Dave Matthews Band."
Road Not Taken will perform in the Wherehouse Battle of the Bands
in Bartlesville, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m.
