Change

I sit and ponder
This life, I wonder
so often. I look at the bad
But there are good times to be had
I’m usually the martyr
While I search all the harder
Life’s been grim with grays and blacks
While my body’s been scratched by life’s tacks
Seeing the world as a cesspool
I’ve been the fool
Like a phoenix who rises from the ash
Like the healing of a large gash
for the better I’m changing
leaving dirty clothes hanging
The best thin to wear
is an attitude of care
Like the blond pearl
I’ll allow goodness to uncurl
What’s the best to see,
Black or white in me?
I’ll still express how I feel
I won’t let it stamp out my zeal
I will rise above the pain
and fight off the rain
I will take time to learn
This goal for which I yearn
to dislodge the dark
with a powerful spark
