Growing up, Kami didn't learn any musical instruments. (he studied Japanese writing) But he really enjoyed the Music room, and would spend time in there. The first time he played an instrument was in a music festival in 5th grade. He got the percusion part, and wanted to excel at it so much, he practiced everyday. He became so good he was asked to teach the other students playing percusion. In high school he started playing music. Kami and one of his friends got interested in music so much that they wanted to make a band. At first he wanted to play Guitar, but he couldn't, so he took up percussion, remembering that he played it before. He became very dedicated to his durmming, playing all weekend. (he didn't have time on weekdays because of school and because he took up tennis). With all this practice he learned to do very complex beats. His band became quite popular in his town. When he decieded he wanted to be a professional drummer he moved to Tokyo. But now all the other band members could come with him, so he joined a new band. But this band was Punk. Although he did like some Punk music (like the Sex Pistols and the Buzzcocks), he wanted to have more of an original percussion sound with his music. He then joined the Visual band Kneuklid Romance. Kami first noticed Malice Mizer playing in livehouses, and one time Yu~ki even asked him to join, but he said no. Then Mana asked him, and after being a tempory member for half a year, he officially joined them.
____fun little tidbits
-growing up Kami watched a show that showed the hits in the US at the time, the ones he liked were The Culture Club and Duran Duran. (Whoo!!! 80's british pop rules! :D)
-The song that attracked Kami to Malice Mizer was the song "Baroque". He says it was long, developed quickly, and changed rhythm a lot. He thought of their concept very interesting.
-Also did back up singing
-Was interested in Japanese history, especially the general Shingen Takeda.
-He was associated with Butterflies often, and I think I spotted three small butterfly tattoos on his right arm.
-Loved to Gamble
-his favorite songs were "Romance" by Penicillin, "Kaeru-no Pyonta, Sugoina" and "Ikaros."
-Collected perfume, had over 80 bottles, but used only 4 of them. (his favorite one was called "Ma Cherie". fitting IMO..)'
-He is often associated with being the warmhearted cute member, though this is very true, he also had a side which would make no one want to go near him, thus why he often used masks.
-He played tennis quite often.
-he wrote the songs "Unmei no Deai" and "Mori no naka no tenshi" which were released with the Shinwa Memorial box.
____style
Kami has to be one of the cutest people I have ever seen. I love him. His color was usually purple or pink. His trademark, as you would call it, was his beautiful long hair. When he cut it (because it got in his face when playing), many fans got annoyed. His style is very casual. His Au Revior outfit liiked like he just came out of the 70's. (which I absolutely loved.... especially his cute little hat. :D)
____memorium
Kami died on July 21st, 1999, of a Subarachnoid Hemorrhage, in his sleep. He was found 4 days later on the 25th, and a private funeral took place on the same day. And however depressed this makes me, and countless others, there is something Gackt said that I think everyone should try to follow:
