Thanksgiving Turkey

THE THANKSGIVING TURKEY SERMON

"And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth." Genesis 1:20-23

"Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?" Matthew 6:26

Introduction: Here it is Thanksgiving time again and many people will be eating all kinds of food. But one thing that most people have at Thanksgiving is the good ole’ American traditional turkey!
Well, God created the turkey like He did all the other animals and tonight with God’s help we want to look at the Bible and look at the turkey and see if we can learn something fresh from a well known holiday meat.

Fact: About 240 million turkeys are raised each year in the United States, with North Carolina, Minnesota, and California leading in production.

Think about the turkey and how we it reminds us of so much to be thankful for! (See Psalm 91 and other scriptures…)

1. The Wattle-the red blood of Jesus.
Thank God that Jesus died on an old rugged cross and shed his holy blood that we might be redeemed, reconciled, and regenerated!
"In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise," Ephesians 1:7,13

2. The Eyes-birds have good eye sight.
God can see better that us! He sees what’s ahead down the road.
"The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower."Ps.18:2.

3. The Feathers-Feathers have many uses…

4. The Wings-We are covered by the wings of God.

5. The Abundance of Meat-At God’s table we have an abundance of meat.
There’s plenty to eat with Jesus!

6. The Overall Beauty of the Turkey with its tail feathers spread out and its colors born.
This speaks of the glory and majesty of the Lord Jesus Christ. As the turkey is the centerpiece of attraction at Thanksgiving, so Christ is the focus of all of Heaven and those who will make up the Kingdom of Heaven. And Christ is the One whom we should shift our focus to during the holiday season and everyday of the year!
