Easter

She sits alone,
all alone,
waiting, wishing, hoping.
She imagines a phone ring,
imagines a knock at the door.
She runs out to see who is there
and walks back to her chair,
slowly,
filled with emptiness.

Pictures run through her mind-
bright smiling faces running about,
Colors of a spring day
barely shining through the loneliness of her eyes.

She feels pain in her heart,
greater than ever,
leaving her feeling weak.
She picks of the square
that holds the only visual memory
she has of her lost true love.

Her deep blue eyes and antique smile
alone tell the story of her life.

And as she touches the picture,
a tingle runs through both arms,
and both legs,
and her spine,
and brings to life her love once more.

She hears him calling
from far away.
It's the only sound that still exists;
his sweet voice calling her name.
She hears the song of angels,
Her heart is filled with love once more.

She tries to call out
to anyone,
but no one seems to hear,
but that sweet man,
so long ago lost.

And as she sees him reach out to her,
that square that holds his memory
falls to the floor,
and shatters on her lifeless foot,
and she is alone no more.
