Jessica’s journey began in April 2000 when she found out she had a benign brain tumor located in her left temporal lobe. This tumor was causing her to have seizures. Jessica’s life changed quickly but she continues to stand tall.
Jessica had to give up swimming, water polo, driving, and many other daily activities like riding a bike, taking a bath, carnival rides, basically anything where she could be injured if she had a seizure. Jessica swam competitive since she was 8 years old, so giving up her water activities was very heart breaking.
Over the years, we have watched this tumor slowly change and her seizure increase in number and intensity. Jessica has seen many doctors over the years, had many test and tried all types of seizure medications. The doctor’s kept telling Jessica to work with medications and wait for the new technology to develop. Last winter, Jessica was having so many daily seizures and suffering from the many side effects related to the large dosage of medications, she felt she couldn’t return to college. It was at this point we began to seriously search for a team of doctors to help Jessica.
With the help of her doctors, a lot of research, many phone calls, emails and visits, we finally found a highly qualified surgical team in Boston. To give Jessica the opportunity for the best possible outcome, Jessica will be awake during the surgery. This team is one of a handful around the world that does this type of surgery.
