The GCSE Examination Boards although
non-profit making and independent of government are regulated by the QCA,
a UK government body that ensures all UK qualifications fit into the
National Qualification Framework or NQF.
The object of the NQF is to make all qualifications at one level comparable, thus an AQA GCSE = Cambridge Program IGCSE = SQA Standard Grade. Each Examination Board generally has a regional base and a specialist marketing area. CIE specialise in the international market, the SQA and EDEXCEL specialise in 'Associate Degree programs in addition to GCSE, AQA produces the widest variety of GCSE's |
