Two days before the wedding Brooke stops by to see Lucas at work. He sees her walk in and stops her.
“Why are you here? You know I thought at some point we could be friends again, but the way you have been treating Mandy has made that almost impossible,” he says. “I’m sorry,” she says walking toward him.
He sees Mandy come in the door and goes around Brooke to give Mandy a kiss; they make it quite intimate for their audience.
“Hi,” Brooke says when they are finally done.
Mandy doesn’t respond.
“You need to talk to her,” he says to Brooke as he heads for the office.
“No, I want to talk to you both,” she adds quickly.
He goes back to stand by Mandy and holds her hand.
“Well talk,” Lucas says irritated.
“I’m sorry Mandy for the way I have treated you, I came by to tell Lucas I am moving to New York to try modeling and I will be gone for a while.”
Mandy just looks at her for a few moments.
“I accept your apology,” is all she says.
“Thank you,” Brooke replies starting to leave.
“Brooke, you are welcome to come to the wedding if you like,” Mandy offers.
“Thanks, but I am leaving tomorrow.”
Mandy goes to her to shake her hand and Brooke leaves after smiling at Lucas.

Lucas and Mandy go for lunch at Karen’s Café but they sit outside; while they are eating one of Lucas’ former teachers walks by then stops to talk to them.
“Hi Mrs. Johnston,” Lucas says with a smile.
“Oh, Hi Lucas, I just have to say I thought you and Brooke made a good couple when you dated.”
Lucas is stunned and doesn’t reply at first.
“Mrs. Johnston this is my fiancé Mandy we are getting married in two days,”
“Oh nice to meet you dear,” she says, “have you considered marrying someone of your own race, dear?” she asks.
Mandy is angry but tries to be calm.
“Actually no I am marrying Lucas because I love him and he loves me,”
“Okay, well good luck with that,” she says smiling only at Lucas and walking away.
Lucas just shakes his head.
“Are you ready to deal with people responding to us that way?” she asks.
“Yes, I know it will be challenging at times; but I love you for you and that isn’t going to change.”
He leans over to kiss her and she eagerly responds pulling him closer. Karen comes outside smiling.
“Hey, you two, get a room,” she says teasing them.

Lucas tells Nathan about Mrs. Johnston’s reaction to them and Nathan tells him the same thing Mandy had mentioned.
“People can be cruel, Bro, but I know you love Mandy so you are going to just have to let those things go in one ear and out the other.”
“Oh, I know, it was just the first time for me I’m not worried, I mean Mrs. Johnston is practically a stranger to me,” Lucas says.
“Well the strangers are the ones with all the opinions,” Nathan says.
Haley is a little more surprised to hear about the incident and really shocked to find out Brooke is moving.
“I guess she was going to mentioned that when, today?”
“Lucas, are you sure she said she was leaving tomorrow?”
“Yes, Haley, I’m surprised you didn’t know.”
“Well, I have been busy helping with your wedding and working on my songs and having a life with my husband,” she says laughing.
“I’m sure Peyton knew; surprising she didn’t run by and give you a heads up,” Nathan adds.
“Oh well, I guess I will go over there and talk to her,” she says as she grabs her purse and gives Nathan a kiss before leaving.
“I’ll be back shortly,” she says.
Lucas doesn’t see any need to wait he goes home to Mandy. He arrives to see her and Karen trying on their dresses for the ceremony. He is glad Mandy isn’t superstitious.
“You two are so beautiful,” he says shutting the door.
“I know you only see the bride,” Karen says, “But I will assume you mean your old Mom too,” she adds.
“Hi baby,” Mandy says holding up her wedding dress up to coming over and give him a hug; he gets a kiss as a bonus while she is in his embrace.
“Mandy told me what happened today,” Karen says interrupting them.
“Yes that was unfortunate, but we are not going to dwell on it,” he says.
“Did you know Brooke was leaving?”
“Oh, that’s what you are talking about, no I had no idea, I knew she wanted to model; it’s a natural step for her,” Lucas says.

Karen asks what else he thought she was speaking about and they told her about Mrs. Johnston.
“That is surprising, but everyone has their own opinion on these things,” she says smiling at Mandy.
Lucas is surprised by Karen’s response.
“So what is your opinion Mom, you have been supportive but how do you feel about us getting married?”
Karen is unzipping Mandy dress, she says ,”I think its great when anyone finds someone to love, Lucas, and I am very happy that you found Mandy, race is not a factor and should never be.”
Lucas and Mandy both giver her a hug.

That night they decide to not have sex again until after the wedding.
“We can do that it’s only a couple of days,” Lucas says snuggling closer to her.
The ceremony is at the local Methodist Church, it is a very small service with only close friends and family. Haley is Mandy’s maid of honor and Neva the only bridesmaid. Nathan is Lucas’ best man and Keith is the groomsman. Dan doesn’t attend the wedding but Deb is there and seems to be happy for them. Peyton is also there as well as Anna, Felix and Mouth.

Mandy has been experiencing extreme morning sickness the last few days and has to throw up right before she is supposed to walk down the aisle. Lucas is dressed in his tux and with her in the bathroom making sure she is okay. He checks her dress to make sure it is still clean and helps her rinse her mouth with out messing up her hair. He hands her a tic tac and gives her a boyish grin.
“Thanks, baby,” she says.
“You don’t have to thank me I am here for you, always,” he says as he has an extreme urge to hold her but he doesn’t want to wrinkle her dress. He settles for a quick kiss. “We should go they will be looking for us,” he says taking her hand.

As they finally exchange rings and say their I dos, Mandy tears up; Haley presses a lace hanky into her hand to wipe her tears before she kisses her new husband. They go to Cancun for their honeymoon and spend a marvelous week of enjoying all kinds of water sports and walking the beach holding hands. When they make love as a married couple they feel a real connection; their commitment to one another seems more real now and they plan to enjoy this new stage of their life minute by minute.
