The Final Inspection

The Marine stood and faced God Which must always come to pass He hoped his shoes were shining Just as brightly as his brass. "Step forward Marine, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?" The Marine squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't Because those of us who carry guns Can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays And at times my talk was tough, And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough. But, I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep... Though I worked a lot of overtime When the bills got just too steep. And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear, And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place Among the people here, They never wanted me around Except to calm their fears. If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand, I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand." There was a silence all around the throne Where the saints had often trod As the Marine waited quietly, For the judgment of his God. "Step forward Marine, You've borne your burdens well, Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets, You've done your time in Hell." TO ALL THAT SERVE! ~Author Unknown

The Marine

We all came together, Both young and old . To fight for our freedom, To stand and be bold. In the midst of all evil, We stand our ground, And we protect our country >From all terror around. Peace and not war, Is what some people say. But I'll give my life So you can live the American way. I give you the right To talk of your peace, To stand in your group And protest in our streets. But still I fight on. I don't bitch, I don't whine. I'm just one of the men Who is doing your time. I'm harder than nails, Stronger than any machine, I'm the immortal soldier, I'm a US MARINE! So stand in my shoes, And leave from your home. Fight for the people who hate you, With the protests they've shown. Fight for the stranger, Fight for the young, So they all may have, The great freedom you've won. Fight for the sick, Fight for the poor. Fight for the cripple, Who lives next door. But when your time comes, Do what I've done. For if you stand up for freedom You'll stand when the fight's done. Corporal Aaron M. Gilbert UNITED STATES MARINE USS SAIPAN, PERSIAN GULF MARCH 23, 2003 HEY DAD, DOWN HERE. Do me a favor and label this "THE MARINE" and send it to everybody on your distribution list. Even leave this paragraph in it. I want this rolling all over the US. I want every home reading it. Every eye to see it. And every heart to feel it. So can you please send this out for me? I would but I am sorta on the USS SAIPAN and my e-mail time isn't that long. You know what, Dad, I wondered what it would be like to truly understand what JFK said in his inaugural speech, "When the time comes to lay down my life for my country, I do not cower from this responsibility, I welcome it." Well, now I know. And I do, Dad, I welcome the opportunity to do what I do. Even though I have left behind a beautiful wife, and I will miss the birth of our first born child, I would do it 70 times over to fight for the place that God has made for my home. I love you all and I miss you very much. SEMPER, FI. AARON I Give To You My Son

I hugged him as a boy. And through the years he has become My greatest pride and joy. I love him more than I can say, His life more precious than my own. But gone are the whims and notions Of the little boy that I have known. For the years have passed so quickly Since the time it all began, And now he stands before me With the convictions of a man. He wants to serve his country He states aloud with pride, As I try to sort out the emotions That I'm feeling deep inside. A union of the uncertain fear, Which I cannot control, And the allegiance that lies deep within My patriotic soul. I trust that my years of guidance Will serve as a strong foundation As he perfoms the duties requested From his beloved nation. God, please guide him as he travels To the places our Marines have bled, And walk with him through pathways where those heroes' feet have tread. Oh, Sweet Land of Liberty, Humbly I give you my son, Praying you'll return him safely home When his work for you is done. A Soldiers Poem

Written by a Marine on Active Duty

'TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, THEY LIVED ALL ALONE, IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE. I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE, AND TO SEE JUST WHO IN THIS HOME DID LIVE. I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE, NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE. NO STOCKING BY MANTLE, JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND, ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES OF FAR DISTANT LANDS. WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS, A SOBER THOUGHT CAME THROUGH MY MIND. FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY, I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER, ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY. THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING, SILENT, ALONE, CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME. THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE, THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER, NOT HOW I PICTURED A UNITED STATES SOLDIER. WAS THIS THE HERO OF WHOM I'D JUST READ? CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FOR A BED? I REALIZED THE FAMILIES THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT, OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT. SOON ROUND THE WORLD, THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY, AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY. THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR, BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE. I COULDN'T HELP WONDER HOW MANY LAY ALONE, ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME. THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE, I DROPPED TO MY KNEES AND STARTED TO CRY. THE SOLDIER AWAKENED AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE, "SANTA DON'T CRY, THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE; I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, I DON'T ASK FOR MORE, MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS." THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP, I COULDN'T CONTROL IT, I CONTINUED TO WEEP. I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS, SO SILENT AND STILL AND WE BOTH SHIVERED FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL. I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT, THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR SO WILLING TO FIGHT. THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE, WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA, IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE." ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH, AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT. "MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."

Deck Of Cards

It was a sweltering, hot Sunday morning in the Saudi Arabian desert. A young soldier sat alone in his tent, deep in thought. A small picture of his wife and children back home in the United States, rested on a table nearby. His mind began to wander across the miles, to other Sunday mornings that seem so long ago now, and so far away. He thought of home and he knew that when this day dawned in America, his family would go to church to pray for his well being, and his safe return. The young soldier reached into his bag and took out a deck of playing cards, and spread them out on his bunk. About that time one of his buddies came by and said, 'You're gonna get up a game?" No," the soldier replied. "I'm going to spend a little quiet time with the Lord." "Looks to me like you're playing cards," his buddy answered. "No, you see, I don't have my Bible, and since we can't display our relegion in public here, I brought this deck of cards." And with that the young man started his story. "You see, when I look at the Ace, it reminds me that there is but one God. And the Deuce reminds me that the Bible is divided into two parts, the Old and the New Testament. When I see the Trey, I think of the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost. And when I see the Four, I think of the evangelists who preached the gospel. There was Peter, Mark, Luke and John. And when I see the Five, it reminds me of the five wise virgins who trimmed their lamps. There were ten of them. Five were wise and were saved. Five were foolish and were shut out. And when I see the Six, it reminds me that in six days God made this great heaven and earth. And the Seven, reminds me that on the seventh day God rested from his great work. And when I see the Eight, I think of the eight Righteous persons God saved when he destroyed the Old World. There was Noah, his wife, their three sons and their wives. And when I see the Nine I think of the Lepers our Savior cleansed. And nine out of the ten didn't even thank Him. When I see the Ten, I think of the Ten Commandments that God handed down to Moses on a table of stone. And the Jack is the Devil. When I see the Queen, I think of the Virgin Mary, the Blessed Queen of Heaven. And when I see the King, it reminds me that there is but only one King of Heaven, God Almighty. So you see my friends, this deck of cards serves me as a Bible and as a Prayer Book. And friends, this story is true, 'cause I know that young solider. Written By: Tyler Texas

Story In A Tampa Newspaper

STORY IN TAMPA BAY NEWSPAPER . Will we still be the Country of choice and still be America if we continue to make the changes forced on us by the people from other countries that came to live in America because it is the Country of Choice?????? Think about it . .. .. All I have to say is, when will they do something about MY RIGHTS? I celebrate Christmas, but because it isn't celebrated by everyone, we can no longer say Merry Christmas. Now it has to be Season's Greetings. It's not Christmas vacation, it's Winter Break. Isn't it amazing how this winter break ALWAYS occurs over the Christmas holiday? We've gone so far the other way, bent over backwards to not offend anyone, that I am now being offended. But it seems that no one has a problem with that. This says it all! This is an editorial written by an American citizen, published in a Tampa newspaper. He did quite a job; didn't he? Read on, please! IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language! "In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture. If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE!
