SCHOOL
MISSION STATEMENT:

mission of Sheldon High School is to empower students to meet standards of

COURSE
DESCRIPTION:
This
intermediate level course will build upon the skills previously taught in
Computer Technology. In addition,
several essential areas are added which give the student an all-around solid
education in how technology is used in schools and the workplace. This course
will prepare students to take more challenging computer courses while at Sheldon
High School. Its both a rewarding and exciting course, which should be taken
by everyone who likes computers.

COURSE
AND BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS:
BEHAVIORAL
EXPECTATION:
Students are expected to
follow all school and class rules. If
a student chooses to break the
rules, then loss of participation points, detention, on campus suspension,
referral, and Saturday school are all possible consequences.
SUSPENSION/ON
CAMPUS SUSPENSION (OCS):
No make up work/tests will
be allowed if a student is suspended or sent to on campus suspension.
TARDY
POLICY:
Student must be in his/her
assigned seat and ready to work before the bell rings or a tardy will be
assigned. The consequences for
tardies are: 3rd Tardy Detention/Parent Contact, 4th
Tardy Saturday School, 5th Tardy Referral to Vice Principal.
DAILY
MATERIALS:
Materials to be brought to
class everyday include the following:
A section in your regular binder for Intermediate Computer Technology
notes and handouts.
Lined note paper
Blue or Black Pens, Pencils
HOMEWORK:
Students must do all
assigned classwork and homework on time. Except for excused absences - NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED.
If a student is absent for only one day, the student is encouraged to
call a classmate that day in order to attempt to do the work and not fall
behind.
MAKE-UP
WORK/TESTS:
Late work will be accepted
and missed tests may be taken for excused
absences only. An absence
is considered excused and the assignment and/or test will be accepted when the
readmit (with an excused absence) is given to the instructor.
Students will have one lab day for each day absent to make up missed
assignments. Example: If a student
is absent on a Tuesday, he/she may turn in Tuesday's work on Thursday.
Students must make up tests after school on the next available lab
day or zero points will be awarded. Note:
It is the responsibility of the student to identify what work was missed
when absent, and to schedule a make up test.

The course grade will be determined and weighted based upon the following:

Students are required to have
parent/guardian signatures when
his/her grade fall below a C on a grading period. If no signature is given
within two days, a mandatory after school lab is assigned. If the lab is not
attended as agreed, a detention will be given.
Curriculum
Standards:
The
student will demonstrate touch typing skills at a given level of proficiency.
The
Student will demonstrate competency on a word processing program and in
formatting essential business documents including letters, reports, and memos.
The
student will understand multimedia technology.
The students will utilize desktop publishing and multimedia technology to
manipulate and produce publications and presentations.
The
student will understand spreadsheet concepts necessary to gather, create, and
analyze spreadsheet data. The
student will perform multiple tasks required to process data effectively and
produce usable information.
The
student will understand the basic concepts in Internet research and web page
design and/or publishing
The
student will understand database concepts necessary to gather, create, and
analyze data. The students will
perform multiple tasks required to process data effectively and produce usable
database information.
NOTE:
To be recommended by instructor for other computer courses, students must
receive a "C" or better in both semesters of Intermediate Computers.
