SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT:
The
mission of Sheldon High
School is to empower students to meet standards of excellence which
foster intellectual curiosity and ready them to be responsible,
productive, employable citizens in a culturally diverse society.
COURSE
DESCRIPTION:
This entry level course
will teach students a solid foundation in computer skills with which to
build upon in their future years. All
of the skills learned in this course will assist every student in
succeeding in school and in the work place. This course is offered to
enable students to develop technology skills for academic and career
success. Units of study include touch typing, word processing report
generation, spreadsheet development, database management, desktop
publishing, multimedia presentations, Internet electronic research,
Computer Information Science topics, business and computer ethics, and
an introduction to Web design. Students will integrate technology skills
learned in the course to develop a computer application E-Commerce
business-to-consumer company project that sells and distributes a
product and/or service. Entrepreneurial potential will be discussed and
stressed. Organizational skills, note taking, critical thinking skills,
problem solving will be emphasized throughout the course of study.

Course curriculum meets and exceeds EGUSD Computer Technology Graduation
Requirements.
CONTENT
AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

Keyboarding – Students will demonstrate knowledge
of basic computer input devices, basic operating system functions, and
basic disk management features as they pertain to general computer
applications. Students will
demonstrate touch typing skills at a given level of proficiency.

Word Processing – Students will demonstrate
competency on a word processing program and in formatting essential
business documents including letters, reports, and outlines.
·
Spreadsheets – Students will understand
spreadsheet concepts necessary to gather, create, and analyze data.
They will perform multiple tests required to process data
effectively and produce usable information.

Database – Students will understand database
concepts necessary to gather, create, and analyze data.
They will
perform multiple tasks required to process data effectively and
produce usable database information.

Multimedia – Students will understand multi-media
technology. They will
utilize desktop-publishing and multi-
media technology to manipulate and produce publications and
presentations.
·
Electronic Research – Students will understand
electronic research concepts and systems.
They will perform a
variety of tasks using electronic media to research information
effectively.
·
Technical Reading and Writing – Students will
understand the elements of technology reading and writing
necessary to complete technical tasks.
COURSE
AND BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS:
- Give
your personal best effort throughout the full class period.
- Be
respectful, courteous and positive in manner and attitude.
- Participate
in classroom discussions.
- Cheating
in any form will not be tolerated.
- Gum,
food, and drinks are not allowed into the classroom.
- Class
notes must be handwritten
to receive credit.
- Hats,
hoods, head coverings are to be removed upon entering the classroom.
(Students should abide by Sheldon High School rules.)
- Students
must save work in personal data folder as well as moving information
to teacher folder to receive credit for work. (Students may not send
the same document more than twice.)
- Save
on the computer regularly. If
the computer freezes or an error occurs, student is responsible to
complete assigned work.
- Computer
desktops (screens), properties, screen savers, etc. are not to be
changed. If the person
before you changes anything, then you are to notify the teacher
immediately.
- Clean
up workstation before dismissal.
The class must be seated and quiet to be dismissed.
- Seek
help for individual needs. The Business/IT Department will offer
tutoring labs after school at Sheldon on Tuesday (except 2nd
Tuesday of month), Wednesday and Thursday from 3-4 p.m. in Rm. C003.
Student ID card must be given to lab instructor or the
student will not be allowed to attend lab.
The lab will be closed 20 minutes into the session.
SUSPENSION/ON
CAMPUS SUSPENSION (OCS):
No make up work/tests will be allowed if a student
is suspended or sent to on campus suspension.
TARDY
POLICY:
Student must be in his/her assigned seat and ready
to work before the bell rings or a tardy will be assigned. The consequences for tardies are: 3rd Tardy –
Detention/Parent Contact, 4th Tardy – Saturday School, 5th
Tardy – Referral to Vice Principal.
DAILY
MATERIALS:
Materials to be brought to class everyday include
the following:
A section in your regular binder for computer
technology notes and handouts.
Lined
note paper
Blue or Black Pens, Pencils
HOMEWORK:
Students must do all assigned classwork and
homework on time. Except
for excused absences - NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED.
If a student is absent for only one day, the student is
encouraged to call a classmate that day in order to attempt to do the
work and not fall behind.
MAKE-UP
WORK/TESTS:
Late work will be accepted and missed tests may be
taken for excused absences only.
An absence is considered excused and the assignment and/or test
will be accepted when the readmit (with an excused absence) is given to
the instructor. Students
will have one lab day for each day absent to make up missed assignments.
Example: If a student is absent on a Tuesday, he/she may turn in
Tuesday's work on Thursday. Students
must make up tests after school on the next available lab day or
zero points will be awarded. Note:
It is the responsibility of the student to identify what work was
missed when absent, and to schedule a make up test.

Students are required to have
parent/guardian signatures when
his/her grade fall below a C on a grading period. If no signature is
given within two days, a mandatory after school lab is assigned. If the
lab is not attended as agreed, a detention will be given.
