Suspension Trouble

SYMPTOMPROBLEMCURE

Steering Vague-Free movement at the steering wheel before wheels seen to move in straight-ahead position

Worn steering bearing. Worn suspensikon dampers. Free play between Bearing and bearing cone. Check BY rocking wheels with car jacked up. Role the wheel and feel the free play.
Worn Steering balljoints. Worn suspension dampers. Replace ball joints.
Steering gear box loose on mountings Retighten or adjust the free play in steeirng gear box
Worn Steering gear box Overhaul or exchange

Wheel Wobble at any speed over 20 mph

Wheel need balancing Specialist check
Wheel buckeld Let service center face the problem
Tyre pressure wrong Check and inflate/deflate as necessary.
Another possible fault is checp remould tyres. Overhaul or exchange
Steering gear worn Check and replace necessary
Steering track needs adjustment.These are not probable,but a general check of the steering geometry,camber,castor and kpi may prove more rewarding. Consult manual or contact service center

Wheel Wobble at low speed

Check tyres condition,check tyre balancing Replace tyre if necessar or refer to service center
Wheel Inclined at wrong angle("castor angle") due to suspension wear or damage Specialist Check

Car slew to one side-normal progress

Tyre pressure wrong Adjust pressure
Steering track wrong Specialist check
Loose suspension parts Check/replace as necessary
Camber incorrect set Specialist check

Car slews to one side when braking

Oil on brake linnings Replace linnings.Trace oil leak
One seized brake mechanism( need not necessary be a front one) Locate seizure; replace components as necessary
Badly adjusted brakes Re-adjust brakes

Steering Heavy

May be a Characteristic of the car Could be different reasons if the car is power steering.(1) Low tyre pressure (2) Leak power hose(3) Leak power rack.
Lack of lubrication to swivels Lubricate
Bent chassis Contact to specialist , body repairs
Lack of lubrication in steering box Lubricate , fill in the box and check the leak or the cause of leak
Bent or mal-adjusted steering Check and replace as necessary
