The Bachelor V 05/20/04
By Wendy Thompson

Q. Well, you got it right, even though I fell for the trick and believed Tara had won, after seeing Jessica arrive first.

A. Last week's prediction was more of an "educated guess" than anything else. You should have known Tara was going home after watching the scene of her getting sick on her way to meet Jesse. I am almost certain the producers would not have shown those scenes if she had been Jesse's choice, since they would have wanted to prevent the viewers from remembering the winner getting sick on a curve. I must say showing Tara in that condition was very tacky and tasteless, in my opinion. I was surprised she was the one who began talking, when they were facing each other, and almost proposed. Tara almost sent herself home before Jesse could get a word in.

Q. What was it that made you pretty certain, from early on, it was not going to be Tara?

A. It is difficult to put into words. I formed an opinion using dozens of small tidbits, much like building a jigsaw puzzle. Even though Jesse was physically attracted to her, I never saw much romance in his body language, whenever they were together. I also believed Tara's inability to express her emotions also contributed to her demise.

Q. She did struggle with this throughout the show, almost till the last day.

A. I know some viewers thought Tara's father was a real joker with a good sense of humor, but I am of the opinion his act, during the "shootout date" was not all for fun and games, and he may actually be the underlying cause of why Tara has grown up with difficulty expressing her feelings to other men. This is just a guess, but I do not believe to be too far off the track. Anyway, I find it difficult to believe she would have abandoned her business and family to follow Jesse to N.Y., after the six weeks in TV paradise had worn off and she came back to reality.

Q. What impression did Jesse's parents give you?

A. Both appear to be nice people. The mother seem to be a better judge of character than his father, and she quickly realized Tara was not talking or behaving like someone who was in love with her son. I believe Jesse's father was concentrating on determining each woman's personality and maturity level instead of what their feelings might have been for Jesse.

Q. Did you like the final ceremony with Jesse and Jessica?

A. I believe we have seen and heard enough TV proposals, by now, to have learned they are realistically inconsequential as to the longevity of the relationship. Perhaps now that Jesse and Jessica have no external pressures to move in together or "set a wedding date", they will be able to continue getting to know each other outside the show. The road ahead of them is extremely bumpy, but I would be satisfied if J&J would stay amicably together for a year or two, even though I somehow doubt it.

Q. Are you going to watch the After the Rose Special?

A. Yes, I will, even though I have the impression ABC is going to spoil it by making a soap opera out of it. This show could regain some of it's original magic, and ratings, if ABC would choose an interesting and romantic lead, while keeping the overdone theatrics out of the script.
