Chapter 2

Dia wandered the dark streets of central Philadelphia for a while before coming to a stop in front of her apartment building. She greeted the doorman on her way in and got on the elevator. After riding up to the 3rd floor, she got off and found her apartment, 314. She took out her keys and unlocked the door, stepping inside and shutting the door behind her. As she hung up her coat, her eyes scanned the apartment. It looked kind of like Giles's home from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. There were ancient artifacts and old, sacred books all over the place. The walls were tan with a brown border. The apartment had a kitchenette, family room/dining room, TV room with a folding couch, and one bedroom. Dia's eyes landed on her bookshelf, where her black tabby-cat was perched.

"Hey Sari," she said. Going over to the bookshelf, she pet the cat with one hand while her eyes scanned the books.

"Here we go," she said, taking a worn-out brown, leather-bound book off the shelf. Grabbing a soda from the fridge, she perched herself on the wide windowsill that over-looked the street. She looked at the book cover.

"Spells and Artifacts for the Dead and Undead," she muttered. Sighing, she flipped open the book and started reading.

At the hotel

"I can't believe you just did that!" Kevin yelled at his cousin.

"Kevin, she killed you! How can you be nice to her?" Brian asked in frustration.

"She didn't mean to, Bri. You have to understand that."

"I don't have to understand anything," Brian snapped.

"Yes, you do," Dreama said, pushing him up against the wall, her hand to his throat. "It's her nature and you're damn lucky she didn't kill you."

"I would have sacrificed myself for Kevin."

"At this point, Dia would have probably liked to kill you instead."

"Stop it! Both of you!" They both turned to see Kaisa stand up, her eyes blazing. "How dare you say that, Dreama. You know she doesn't like what she is, but she has to live with it, okay? She didn't want to kill anyone."

Dreama looked into Kaisa's eyes and sighed, letting go of Brian. He dropped to the floor, rubbing his throat.

"I know," she sighed, sitting on the foot of the bed. "I just can't believe he said that to her. I hope she's okay."

"Do you think what Brian said could have affected her that much?" Kevin asked, sitting next to Dreama.

"What, is she gonna go out and kill the town?" Brian asked, sarcastically.

"No, she'll kill herself," Kaisa said. "Then the rest of the town will suffer."

"Why?" AJ asked, finally snapping out of his stupor.

"Most of the vampires hate her," Dreama explained. "She's powerful and with her gone, they'll get free rein of the town, killing everyone."

"So, she's kind of like the Buffy Summers of Philadelphia?" Howie asked.

"In a weird, strange, ironic way, yes," Kaisa said. "Though, she's more like Angel, them both being vampires."

"And that makes you Willow and Xander?" Nick asked.

"More like Willow and Giles," Dreama corrected.

"We help Dia control the situations she needs help with," Kaisa explained. "But we can't stop them without her."

"Wow," Brian said. "If I had known-"

"But you didn't know," Dreama snapped in a tone that made him jump. "And now she's gonna go do something drastic and I'm gonna lose a best friend!"

"Can't Kaisa revive her if she dies?" Kevin asked, laying a hand on Dreama's arm to calm her down.

"She's already dead," Kaisa said. "It wouldn't work."

"Have you even tried it?" Brian asked.

"On Dia's sister after she was transformed," Kaisa explained. "It didn't work. Dia was forced to kill her after she turned evil."

"Oh," Brian said. After a few minutes of silence, Brian stood up. "I have to find her."

"Why?" Dreama asked.

"I feel bad about what I said and I want to apologize." He grabbed his keys and jacket and walked out of the suite, shutting the door behind him. A moment later, the door opened and Brian stuck his head back inside. "Where does she live?"
