ALINA ANDREWS*****Life and death, energy and peace, if I stopped today, it was still worth it, even the terrible mistakes that I have made, and would have unmade if I could. The pains that have burned me and scarred my soul, it was worth it. For having been allowed to walk where I have walked: which was to hell on earth, heaven on earth, back again, into, under, far inbetween, through it, in it, and above~Gia Carangi Comment on Life~ALINA ANDREWS*****

Throughout Mr. Kiely's Honors Religion class , I had often thought; what does this course have to do at all with religion??? Unlike my other religion courses, this one hasn't been solely about the history of Jesus Christ and how we should love Him, like we would normally say to get by in any other religion class. Instead, it has been a transformation through many different works like the Iliad, to What's Bred in the Bone, and to our studies of World Religions that all formed into one thing, discovering YOU.

We have learned that to fully understand religion, you must first understand humans. With that we first learned what it is to be a human being, and by knowing you. The illiad focuses on the issue of human emotions, their Greek aspect of what a human being is, is an individual substance of a rational nature . Through Achilles in this story, we have discovered that you are the product of what people want from you. We are all functional, used for one purpose, we come in as easily as we are thrown out.

Then came What's Bred in the Bone , by Robertson Davies, this didactic story shows us how Francis Cornish's life was influenced by his parents' past, and helped us understand how the choices that others made influence the choices influenced by YOU. His whole life can be symbolized as a painting slowly being finished before him, and in the end, he transcends into this fully understandable person. Francis is making a painting his whole life and in the end he is finally done and realizes who he is, and where he belongs, the question he wanted an answer to for so long. The lesson taught us that we all had a painting of our own that was in the process of becoming and only when you discover YOU, will be truly complete.

Finally our last important study was about the different world religions. This was very important in discovering YOU because for you to understand your own religion, which leads you to understand yourself, you must first understand other peoples faith. This opened us into discovering other worldviews of those who are just like us, and live like we do.

Through all of these different works, we have learned that it is important to find out who we really are. Although I feel I cannot yet come close to answering who I really am and what is my purpose, I feel like I have taken steps to becoming more close to the answer, and one with my painting in the end.
