The Torch of Two Millennia

HOME

The designers of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Torch drew inspiration of the environment where the games would be hosted. The dorsal side draws it's shape from the boldness of the Sydney Opera House, the colour is similar to the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean and the subtle curve is motivated by the curve of the Aboriginal boomerang.

The Torch was unveiled by the president of the Sydney Organising Committe for the Olympic Games (SOCOG) in March where he announced that the Torch was regarded by the Games' Organisers as "the egalitarian spirit of Sydney and Australia, the commitment of the athlete and the Olympism- the spirit of innovation"
