Course objectives: Students enrolled in this course will obtain an
understanding of various types of feature writing. The focus will be on
several topics--searching for ideas, researching a story, interviewing
subjects, writing standards and style, organization and editing.
Course plan: Four feature stories and one final project will be completed by
the student. Four of the stories will be 1,200-1,500 words. The final project
will be 3,000-4,500 words. This will be the final examination.
Students will also read and analyze published features weekly as well as
turn in five story ideas per week.
The four stories are worth 100 points each and due on time. Late papers will
not be tolerated. If a student foresees a problem with turning a paper in on
the due date, he/she must consult with the instructor.
Each story will be evaluated on the following:

to an editor?
*Evaluation of source list.
*Content
*Style
*Completeness
*Spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Workshop critiques are worth 25 points each.
The final project is worth 25 percent of the student's total grade.
Attendance: Students are expected to attend every class and be on time. If a
student foresees that he/she will be late, they should call me at 664-7107

not be attending with the reason they will not be attending.
Two absences will drop a student's grade one letter.
