But first things first! Hearty congratulations to David
McNamee for winning the prestigious Thurston Award from the IIA. The award
was presented at the IIA International Conference in New York on
June 12, 2000. We are proud of you, David!
Regarding board activities, Michael Reiling, your
chapter vice-president for programs, is setting up an outstanding monthly
program for you. In addition, Michael and his team have come up with
innovative ideas for the time, place, and duration of monthly meetings.
Meetings will no longer be restricted to a "dinner plus presentation
at a restaurant." The underlying rationale was to respect the home
life values of members, provide more flexibility to accommodate a variety
of programs, improve the food experience, possibly lower the cost of
meetings, and eliminate conflict with other IIA chapter meetings.
Barry Long, your chapter vice president for seminars,
is working on three seminars during the upcoming year. Seminar dates are
expected to be November 6 & 7, 2000 (Topic to be determined), January
29 & 30, 2001 (Fraud), and May 14 & 15, 2000 (Auditor as
Consultant). Additional details will be provided to you in the near
future.
Dave Potter, the webmeister, has succeeded in setting
up the Northern California East Bay Chapter website! Contact him at
on how to log on and peruse it while he continues to develop it during the
year. Soon you will be able to register for monthly meeting and seminars
using the chapter web site, using any PC or web-enabled device.
Jann Propp-Estimo has taken over the responsibility of
Newsletter Editor and would welcome your input regarding its format and
content.
Laura Strauss and Judy McGriff are busy updating the
chapter membership directory. The directory will be available in late
September through the chapter web site.
It is not possible for me to list all the recent
activities, but I would like to thank all the Officers, Board of
Governors, and Committee/Sub-Committee Members for their hard work in
getting this chapter year off to a flying start. Final details about the
first "official" chapter meeting will be provided to you in
early September. With your participation and support, we will qualify for
the "gold" once again!
