Something like 5 years
have passed
since the first time I met you.
And even then
you seemed far from my reach.
The innocence of our history...
coy flirtation and
awkward confrontation...
has only added to that distance.
But to hear those words
from your lips...
words I never could have imagined
you'd say to me,
it was like ripping through time
and erasing the gap between us.
Then returning to retrieve something
that you could have had
several times over
if you had only asked before.
You rendered me speechless
in more ways than one.
and in shock,
I think my heart beat out of my chest.
So much for distance.
