Rosie and Her Mother in 1947 Rosie Was 2
A Tribute To My Mother
By Rosemary a/k/a TheRose1121
It was a warm summer evening and the doctor had left the hospital
telling this lady that she had all kinds of time before her baby would
be coming. He had just left the parking lot when a nurse came by the
lady's room. She took one look and called out to the only doctor left
on the floor that she needed some help "right now".
Guess what?! In a matter of minutes, I looked into the sweetest eyes
in
the world! They were the eyes of this lady who would be taking me home
to live with her. She was soft as an angel. She said I was, too. The
nurses put little pink bows in my black and unruly hair. Those bows
have long since disappeared but the unruly hair has remained.
In just a few days, I was presented to the family by this precious lady
who was now my Mommy. Our bond was strong and continues to this very
day even though my Mommy has passed away. She will be with me forever
in my heart. She left a big part of her heart within me, you see.
And she took a big part of my heart with her.
Mommy, if you are looking over my shoulder as I write this, I have a
few
things to tell you.
Thank you for loving me so much.
Thank you for washing out all of those diapers.
Thank you for making all of the special little dresses and outfits for
me to make me look so cute. I watched many times as you looked at me
and managed to "create" a little pattern out of newspaper that would
serve as your guide so that you could make those little dresses just a
perfect fit.
Thank you for holding me when I cried and trying everything to solve my
little problems and allaying my fears.
Thank you for all of the stories you told us at bedtime in the
evenings.
And, for the songs you sang as you strummed the guitar on the front
porch before bedtime.
Thank you for the Christmas programs you had in our living room every
Christmas eve, reading the story of the birth of Jesus from the book of
Luke, and for giving us all a role to play in the program. I am trying
to keep that tradition alive today.
Thank you for being a friend and a mother to all of my friends who
loved
you for it as much as I.
Thank you for dropping whatever you had to do to go off with me
somewhere for the day. I really enjoyed our little day trips.
Thank you for instilling in me all of the morals and ethics that are so
important in the world today.
Thank you for being my schoolteacher for my first four years of school.
And my Sunday school teacher for all of my life.
Thank you for allowing me to surprise you and Daddy with my very own
pre-planned fifth birthday party that you only knew about an hour in
advance.
Thank you for the cake that you whipped up out of thin air
and
for the ice cream that you sent Daddy to the store to get as he also
had
to pick up all of my party guests! That was the best party! Thank you
for thinking up all of the games we played that day!
And, thank you for your skills at making that unplanned (as far as you
knew) party such a success.
Mommy, I loved you so much while you were here and I love you so much
now.
I know where you are and I will be there with you one day. Until then,
I will hold you close in my heart and memories. I know when God sent
me
to you, he sent me to an angel.
With all of my love and devotion,
Rosemary
