A new century has arrived, it crept up like a hunter does when hunting
deer, slowly but fast at the same time.
Many had their own opinions of what the year 2000 would be like, you
know things like flying cars, robots that ruled the earth, and flying
to
Mars for vacation instead of going to Florida. However, it didn't turn
out like that. Although the world is a much different place than what
it
was 100 years ago, some things never change.
We now live in an Internet crazed society, obsessed with being online
for hours a day, losing touch with family members just to chat with
some
stranger 2,000 miles away. Twenty years ago many people would laugh at
having technology capabilities like we now have. That's not to say the
Internet is bad, there are good things about it, like finding lost
family members or friends just by typing in their name.
A new century brings new hope that life in the world will be much
better
and with advances in medicine, people are living longer. We're not
necessarily healthier, but we somehow manage to live longer.
Gone are the small "mom and pop" country stores of yesteryear that used
to be everywhere across our great land. Now we have Wal-Mart
Supercenters and other large stores that offer the customer everything.
What happened to the great customer service though? Going to these
massive new stores you're just "another customer" and nothing more.
There's no "How is the wife?" or "It's great to see you today Mr. So
and
So!" At the small country stores they would even know your name and
went
out of their way to be friendly. I know from my own experience as a
child. There were still a few of those stores around, and I'm sure that
I'm not the only one that misses them. You can still find a few here
and
there, but they're much harder to find.
The 21st Century is good though, we have great conveniences that we
once
could only dream of having. It's hard to believe that anyone can say
that they're bored.
The economy is at all time highs and unemployment is low, if it stays
this way the 21st Century will be "just grand"!
