Just the Facts, Ma'am
Okay. Here's a reality-break for all you who are tired of my dreaming.Zodiac: Virgo
Tarot Significator:Usually the princess of swords.
PoliticsAnti-political. I believe politics and politicians will destroy the constitution, eventually. We should dump them altogether and have real-time honest to God polling. People can do it on an 800 number at a phone booth. Press 1 to approve the federal budget. Press 2 to toss it down the tubes. Press 3 to fire the bastard who wrote it, press 4 to give him a raise.
God?:Thou art God. Everyone, every thing, every atom is another face of god.
Religion:I have great faith in the fact that everything always changes. I do have times of reverence, and worship, but honestly they are mostly reactions to the stimulus around me. I see the moon over Lake Michigan, and I'm in religious ecstasy for hours. I go to the United Methodist Church downtown sometimes to see great amounts of people operating on faith and listen to the organ music. I also cast circles in my house, believe that symbolism is the world's way of giving me information, and listen to my own intuition as a religious practice.
Worst Flaw:It used to be impatience, but I think I have improved on that a lot. Now it's either arrogance or being untruthful.
Best strength:Adaptibility. I can be what I need to be when I need to be it. I understand the ever-changing nature of things, and try to roll with the punches. Most of the time I have a calm spot deep inside that gets me through the questionable moments.
Phobia:I used to be afraid of heights, but I licked that one a few years ago. I used to fear spiders, but they are now my friends, because I don't want to start a turf war with them, I would lose. I am semi-afraid of hornets and other stinging flying bugs, but not when I have a can of RAID nearby. I'm also a chicken about being a passenger when other people are driving, but I wouldn't say it's a phobia, because after I know someone well, it fades away.
Scars:Oh, my. Well let's see. There's a big one on my right knee where I really badly scraped it falling on some stairs in college, and it never healed right. I have one in an eyebrow that probably should have been stitched, but I refused to pay for it. There's a burn scar on he back of my left hand, and a surgical one just under my belly button from getting my tubes tied. I have scars on my index and middle finger knuckles from hitting the heavy bag without gloves.
Other ickies:In the course of learning and teaching Aikido I've also dislocated a shoulder and a collarbone, cracked three of my lower rear ribs, and broken my nose twice. All of these things happened by accident, and several of them involved environmental factors and were no one's fault. What really sucks about all of those is that there's nothing anyone can do to make any of them better.
Hair:Yes. Forest says it's pancake-colored. My mom says it's the color of honey, and my dad says it's golden brown. It has occasional white hairs in it, but they aren't too noticeable yet. It's uniformly shoulder length, and parted on the left. I hate wasting time on it, so it gets brushed straight practically every day. I may throw a scrunchy on it in summer and ponytail it. I never use a hair dryer or curling iron except for the theatre. No hairspray. No gel. Shampoo, conditioner, a brush, and that's it. The good thing is that it takes me less time to do my hair than it takes most men. Hah.
Eyes:They're brown. They are surrounded by an insane quantity of eyelashes the same color as my hair. I also have crinkly laugh lines, which I am proud of. I wear glasses, but only when driving at night.
Ears:Ordinary. Pierced in a fit of frivolity at age 12, but I never wear earrings.
Complexion:Really fair, and really sensitive. My cheeks and nose turn red at the slightest hint of a breeze. If I tan at all it's just the slightest shift toward a pale sandy sort of color. I freckle more than I tan. I'm careful to protect my skin from the sun, since my dad just had fun with skin cancer.
Pet Peeves:People who walk around with their mouths hanging open and their tongues hanging out over their teeth. It's just ICKY. I'm also irritated by "I can't" and people who refuse to try new things. Writers who use a comma every time they breathe drive me absolutely insane. I have actually clipped an article from a newspaper, marked it up with red ink and mailed it in to the editor before.
Least Favorite Foods:I really don't like spicy things. If it has jalapeno in it, I don't want to eat it. All of my worldly friends love middle eastern food, and the spicy chinese stuff. I hate going to those places because I always have to order the plainest thing on the menu, and then still typically don't enjoy it much.
Favorite Foods:I love breads. I love cheesy things. Lasagna and fettucine alfredo are the things I most frequently order in restaurants. I also love fresh fruits and salads. For breakfast I adore french toast with cinnamon and maple syrup. When I'm camping I like anything I cook on a stick over the fire. It's the taste of the campfire that's the best part.
Soda:I'm really not a big soda fan. When I'm sick I drink Vernor's. At McDonald's I order orange drink. Caffeine makes me sick more often than not, and I don't like too much carbonation.
Ice Cream:I've recently been addicted to a unique concoction Forest makes. You take Breyer's chocolate ice cream, and put in a bunch of peanut butter and then stir it all up. It's absolutely wonderful.
Hobbies:I play role playing games. I'm learning to play the guitar and the violin, slowly. I am out of practice, but I also play the piano, sax, and clarinet. I love to act. (On stage.)
Talents:I am blessed with a knack for troubleshooting. I can generally pick up an instrument and play it, although I lack the discipline to be great at any of them. I have a natural ear for pitch and feel for rhythm. I'm lucky enough to be physically coordinated and thank the gods I can usually think for myself. I'm eternally thankful that I'm so lucky.
Languages:I speak english. I can also remember some spanish from high school. I can read latin most of the time, and took an intro to Ancient Greek in college.
Cat:Leeloo is a kitten. She's just turned three months old. She's buff colored with white paws and a white face. She is becoming increasingly familiar with the "bad-kitty" water bottle.
Music:I love it. Practically all of it. The only music I don't love is that which is chaotic noise, or that which is overly twangy and tinny, and or off-pitch. The reason twang offends me is that if you listen to it closely, it wavers on and off true pitch. It drives me positively insane. I listen to opera, a lot of baroque stuff, I adore Aaron Copland's music, and generally get all excited by anything really complex, although I would rather play it than listen to it. I also like folk music, it's what I grew up on, and the sounds of an acoustic guitar played softly next to a crackling campfire. I love to play swing music, and wish I knew how to play celtic stuff on the fiddle. As for modern musicians, I have a lot of movie soundtracks. I listen to anything from Nine Inch Nails to Madonna to Garth Brooks to Garbage to old They might Be Giants to Enigma. I love some of the oldies, too. I will stop prattling on now.
Books:Stranger in a Strange Land is my all time favorite. I also love Tad Williams writing, Connie Willis, Jennifer Roberson, and other sci-fi fantasy folks. I'm reading poetry every day now, which is proving to be enlightening. Books that have influenced me most are Stranger in a Strange Land, the Bible (I was raised that way), and Sun Tsu's the Art of War. My least favorite book of all time was easily my Zoology 430 book, entitled "Advanced Theory of the Biochemical Stuctures of Genetic Material". It was just as awful as it sounds.
How I learned to read:My mom read to me from the time I was a baby. My earliest memories involve my already knowing how, so I don't remember how I learned.
Favorite time of day:Sunset.
Other facts:I am an ENTP with strong ENTJ leanings. I used to be half and half T & F, but I'm pretty much T now.
I dress neatly but unflatteringly on purpose
Most of what I learned about life I learned in theatre, in band, or in martial arts training
I have worked in practically every job you can imagine, from health care to computer stuff to retail sales to desktop publishing. The list is hideous.
I almost enlisted in the Army last year in a fit of hopelessness. They wanted me to do intelligence and officer candidate school. Thank heavens I didn't.
I think in music, not in words, and not in pictures.
I'm math dyslexic
I know all the words to American Pie
I don't like living in cities, because it's too noisy and doesn't get dark at night.
I love the woods, the trees, the lakes, and all things natural and quiet
My favorite holiday is Christmas because I love to pick out presents for people.
I never ever EVER want to be a cocktail waitress or a toll booth operator.
I have always sort of wanted to teach.
I'm a compulsive musical instrument purchaser. It's a problem.
I hate coffee.
I love to bake things, but then they end up going to waste because I am not much of an eater.
I freak out if my house isn't clean
I drive a red minivan
I recently learned how to wire a light fixture and repaired my own toilet.
I love college football, but would rather go in person than watch it on TV.
My favorite part of theatre is having so many runs that performances become as regular a part of life as breakfast lunch and dinner, and I can really pay attention to the fine points.
I still try to make my mom happy.
I've always wanted to go out of the country, but never have. (Canada doesn't count)
I love to take long drives.
