Sometimes the most mundane things are the most beautiful
Yesterday was heaven. My boss wanted me to compile a list of books and prices so that we could update our technical resource library. So he sent me to Barnes and Noble for the afternoon. I also missed lunch at work, so I got to leave the bookstore early.I used my extra time to meet Forest for an ice cream and a bask in the sunshine. It's always relaxing to spend time with him.
Then I went to pick Kirstin up at my mom's, and chatted idly with Mom for a bit. That was relaxing, too. I took Kirstin home and made dinner for the two of us. I got these great peaches from the local store, and they were a fantastic dessert. I popped in One Fine Day and Kirstin and I snuggled on the couch while we watched. That's one of my favorite mood movies. It always leaves me feeling relaxed and quietly smiley. Very nice. And it has George Clooney. Mmmmm.
I tucked Kirstin into bed, packed her school lunch, ran my dishwasher, and rotated my laundry. Then I got into my comfiest lounging clothes and hit the couch to read for a while. I'm almost finished with Tad Williams' Green Angel Tower series. It's really good, and most engrossing.
I know that this probably sounds like an incredibly boring evening to most people, but to me, it's heaven. No one called me. No one stopped by. It was quiet and peaceful and I felt productive and fulfilled. Anyone who has read my journal for oh, say, the last 6 months knows that I could really use a little down time. It was wonderful. I feel like a new person.
