Hey there June Bug
Last night was the hottest, sweatiest night of my life. I was in Owosso, at Shiawassee Martial Arts working out like mad. Brian Godfrey owns the place and is the main instructor there; and he is a student of Master Kim's, so we have an open invitation to go out there whenever we'd like to. Our summer class doesn't start until next Wednesday, so Forest and I thought it would be a good idea to get some exercise, and prepare ourselves for the rapidly approachingtournament. The room we practiced in is on the third floor of the building and is not air conditioned. I was so hot that after the first couple of hours I tossed ye old cookies. Blech.
But it was a good workout, the kind that makes you feel 15 pounds lighter just for lost sweat. I also had a couple of good kicks and got to work out with little kids, which I've never done before. It's an interesting thing.
Brian is really nice, and he mentioned that Forest and I would be invited to attend a camp at his place this summer. Apparently he has a pool and a hot tub! A bunch of the masters in the area, Master Kim and his wife, as well as adult couples in martial arts (us) get together and host a small group of kids. Brian has the korean food catered in. It sounds like a great deal of fun. I don't really qualify to help out much, but I would be there as Forest's guest, which is a pretty cool thing anyway.
We got home at about 10:45, and immediately hopped into a steamy hot shower, cooed about how much we loved each other and were happy together, and headed for bed.
And that's pretty much all there is to report.
Well, other than financial stress. This morning Forest went out to get his car with a Uhaul rig. It was going to cost $1000 just to get the preliminary work done (a new head gasket, a new water pump, and a new timing belt) before finding out if the engine is trashed. (It's possible that the pistons hit the valves or something like that.)
He decided just to pay them the $68 for what they'd already done and bring it back to Lansing. His brother offered to look at it and see what he could do, so we're crossing our fingers. In the meantime, we're going to use his ancient Geo Metro to get by. Actually that's not such a bad thing, since gas has been killing us lately, and the Metro gets 60 MPG with its 3-cylinder engine. Granted I don't think it will go faster than 70 MPH, and if you get hit in that thing you're pretty much dead; but it will get us by.
So I just rearranged the Yahoo! Bill Pay stuff to make only minimum payments this month, in support of my need to eat and have really expensive gas. I pushed off early payments to next pay period, when they will be just barely on time. I also have reservations to camp this weekend which are not refundable, so I really ought to go, and that costs a bit of money, too.
You know what, though? This doesn't stress me very much at all. It just occured to me that a year and a half ago I wouldn't have been able to handle this at all. It would have meant I didn't pay my bills for that month, that I couldn't afford to buy food, or that I had to sell things to get by.
I feel incredibly lucky to have some financial stability nowadays. I remember all too well what it's like not to have any.
