My poor sick roomie
Poor poor roomie. He's such a baby when he's sick. It's kind of cute, because he gets all loveydovey in a sick puppy sort of way. It's a little pathetic, too. I took him home from work at noon today so he could sleep. I am somewhat glad of that, though, since Kirstin doesn't have to go to the sitter. I hope she's taking good care of him... as she is definitely the one in charge, while he acts like a baby. That's okay though. She is in a phase where she likes to feel very grown-up.Speaking of which, Kirstin was offered a role as a fairy in Midsummer Night's Dream! I didn't intend that she would audition, matter of fact I didn't even consider it, since it's Shakespeare, which can be pretty complicated for a kid to speak. I took her with me to auditions simply because she had no other place to be. They asked her to tell a joke and do a somersault, which she did... and I guess they liked it. I still need to hear back from her dad about whether or not this is okay with him, but I think it would be an ideal way for her to "play" at theatre without a lot of pressure. It's not during the school year, so it won't distract her from her studies, and it's going to be outdoors in a park, with no bright lights and no intimidating atmosphere. I'm hoping she gets to do it!
I also was cast, as Hermia, one of the lovers. I'm pretty excited. Not only do I get to do Shakespeare, but I get to tumble around in the dirt and fight, and yell, and sob, and generally be a true Shakespearean well-bred wench. Awesome.
Roomie found a space in which to direct Sexual Perversity in Chicago , that play by Daid Mamet he has been wanting to do. It's not a family show, and Mamet is notorious for using the F-word more than any others in his shows, so it was hard to find a place to do it. There's a neat spot called the Creole Gallery in Old Town, which is in downtown Lansing. It's a big empty room that might seat 70 people, with a stage on one end, and a photography exhibit on the walls.
So, as the queen of overcommittment, I have now booked most of my summer. I will be doing Sexual Perversity (in which I actually get to be a bad girl for once) at the end of June, and start rehearsing Midsummer Night's Dream in Mid-July. Performances for that are the two middle weekends of August. BCTG's first show of next season starts rehearsing in mid August and goes up in September. Even if I'm not cast in that, I'm needed to assist in a number of ways.
So there went the summer :o)! Don't worry, all you loving readers. (All one of you, that is.) I will still find a way to take my munchkin out camping, somehow. I think I'll have a little time at the beginning of July... maybe the week after the 4th.
Back to work I go!
