Still sneaking in

This conference is eternal, and I'm overflowing with sales pitches again. I've been discovering that the local people who do presentations are generally speaking with the intention to inform me, however the people at the Bill Gates Brigade are much more interested in selling me things than telling me the truth about them.

I just went to a session on E-commerce, which I hoped would get into the policy issues surrounding transfer of funds and financial data online. I specifically had questions about tunneling protocols, and how packets were to be encapsulated for these specialized purposes. Health care folks particularly have problems with this, because often their claims data contains medical information, and the government requires a high level of security there, for a good reason.

Listen to me, I sound like a professional. Eek.

An old theatre friend of mine is in one of the vendor booths, and she and I at least have had a chance to catch up while we were avoiding our prospective jobs. I've been invited to her birthday! Cool. It's nice to have a change of pace planned.
