WELCOME TO MY PERSONAL JOURNAL
COPYRIGHT 1999

I WOULD LIKE TO INTRODUCE YOU TO FIVE YOUNG MEN. FOUR OF THEM ASPIRED TO BE SINGERS. THE OTHER HAD NO ASPIRATIONS EXCEPT TO LIVE LARGE. THE YEAR WAS 1968; THE PLACE WAS CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.

IN THESE HISTORIC TIMES, THE WAR IN VIET NAM WAS RAGING. DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. AND SENATOR ROBERT KENNEDY BOTH HAD BEEN ASSASSINATED, RESULTING IN CROSS COUNTRY RIOTING. ARSON, DESTRUCTION, AND LOOTING WAS THE BACKDROP OF URBAN CHICAGO. THE NATIONAL GUARD HAD BEEN CALLED IN AND THE MAYOR HAD ISSUED A "SHOOT TO KILL" ORDER. THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION HAD TURNED CHICAGO UPSIDE DOWN. THE NATIONAL GUARD HAD BEEN CALLED IN AGAIN.

SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE NEVER SHOWED UP FOR A CONCERT IN GRANT PARK. THE RESULT WAS CHAOS AND DESTRUCTION FOR DOWNTOWN CHICAGO. THE BLACK PANTHER PARTY WAS FEEDING THE HUNGRY AND PROVIDING MEDICAL CARE FOR THOSE IN NEED, SOMETHING THEY FELT THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD HAVE DONE.

IT WAS A TUMULTUOUS TIME IN AMERICA IN GENERAL, A TIME WHEN EVERYONE HAD A VOICE AND EVERYONE WANTED TO BE HEARD. SO IT WAS WITH THESE YOUNG MEN. THEY HAD VOICES AND THEY WANTED TO BE HEARD, NOT ONLY IN AMERICA, BUT ALL OVER THE WORLD. AS THE DUST SETTLED, THESE YOUNG MEN EMERGED TOWARD THEIR QUEST. COME, LET'S TAKE A PEEK AT HOW IT ALL STARTED...Chapter 1
