Guiltless slumber, sweet repose
Nightmares absent we suppose
Upon the pouty lower lip
Smile replacing witty quip
Eden's garden in her dreams
Shifting glances, so it seems
Is it love that paints delight
Upon her blushing cheek this night?
By day she has no time for this
And scorns indulgence in a kiss
By night all inhibitions hide
Emotions free to fly outside
Perhaps the secret of her glow
Is something modern women know
To grasp the world between their teeth
They must perforce keep feelings 'neath But in the realm of sleep they see
The sweetest opportunity
To thrust back time, put qualms aside
And allow romance a smoother ride
Without the need to pour their scorn
The modern woman, not forlorn
By day, now lives a different life
Say lover, mistress, woman, wife And she would be the last to say
That fantasy must rule by day.
The smile that lights the sleeping eye
Or curls the lip in sultry sigh,
The flight of freedom in the night,
Romance that ebbs by morning's light
Make weak of us who dare make claims
Success can go by many names
